While I'm Away. A Workout Playlist

& Now a word from my BFFF.
--------------------------------

Quick intro for those who are asking “Who’s this guy?”: I fall into
the IRL category of Jamie’s friends, knowing her since before the two
of us could drive a car. Then a few years later we were carpool
buddies to school. A few (more) years after that and a piece of a
plastic rose now sits in my car - a token from when I stood as a
“Bridesman” at her wedding.

So while I try to hold back the tears (both to be strong and to not
get made fun of by her) from realizing she is moving to a spot where
she will no longer be a car ride away, I’m here to do my part in
contributing to her guest posts for the week.

When she asked me to be a guest blogger, I asked her what she had in
mind. Taking a cue from my music blog (ahem, Sight of Sound, ahem,
shameless plug), Jamie suggested I write about a playlist that could
be used when going on a run.

I’ve tried to get into running for the better part of a year and the
past few months I’ve been gaining some small victories in the overall
war. I truly believe it’s because of the right music I had going on at
the time. Since all of our music tastes are different, I wanted to
share what I feel are the right ingredients for a good running mix.

The Determination Tracks

I’m one of those people that wish life came with a soundtrack and
running is one of those moments. I know it sounds cheesy, but
somewhere in a playlist you should have songs that set a scene of
determination. These types of songs are usually longer in length and
include a buildup of sorts. Some examples: “Secret Crowds” by Angels
and Airwaves; “The Resistance” by Muse; “Sick Sad Little World” by
Incubus

The Adrenaline Fuel

These are the kinds of songs people think of when they visualize a
running playlist. The ones with the fast and/or hard beat that stands
to pump the blood in your body along with the bass in your ears. This
is where hard rock or hip hop songs usually get the most play, but
what I’ve noticed is that your playlist shouldn’t be filled with these
songs. Instead, spread them out. There have been a couple times when I
start to slow down but “Fuel” by Metallica comes on and it gives me a
surge of energy.

The Singalong Songs

For the most part, running is a solo adventure. Even if you run with a
friend or two, you most likely have headphones in so you’re in your
own little world anyway - why not have some fun? Fill your playlist
with some of your favorite tracks to sing along to (think about which
ones you would totally give a concert performance to while in the
shower). This is why I have no problem putting “Nuthin but a G Thang”
or a No Doubt track on my playlist. It helps occasionally to get lost
in the world of a favorite song and not think too much about how out
of breath you are or how much your legs hurt.

Slow Jams

Much like everyone would assume to fill the playlist with the
adrenaline tracks, people automatically assume not to put on anything
slow but I disagree - it all depends on placement. Depending on how
long you are running, odds are you are going to slow down at some
point and there is no problem matching the music to your mood. But the
two points when slower tracks can come into play are during the
“warmup” and “cool down” periods. Here is when would be best to throw
on some lighter Black Keys or Kings of Leon tracks.

And those are the perfect ingredients to a good running playlist. I
hope if you try them out that the results are tasty.

Spoiler Alert

Today, while Mr. O was visiting me, we decided to do a vlog about the high [and low] parts of our friendship. But by the time we got done, it was 7+ minutes, and we thought that most people would think that would be too long. SO, we took a Tosh.O approach and made a 'spoiler alert' type video. If you like what you see and/or are curious to see the full version, let me know and we will post it for your viewing pleasure.

Until then:

He's going to kill me

If you've been around here for long enough, you know that my BFF in real life also has a blog.
A lot of you also read and follow his life. I've been thinking about doing this post for a long time, but I could never find the evidence.

Until today.

For those of you who know Mr. O,
meet Ms. O...

Don't worry, he's not a cross dresser. Our high school used to have "Foxy Lady" pageants. I'm not really sure why, but a lot of guys participated.

& No, he did not win.

ANYWAYS..
Today is the last day to sign up for the blogger mail swap. YOU know you wannnnt to.

I can only tell you what it feels like....

Remember how I said I was going to be busy?
Wellllllll, I have been.

Thursday night, we drove the 5+ hours to my sister's house.
Got up Friday morning and made it to the cheesecake factory for lunch. I got the spicy chicken chipotle pasta, and it was amazing--as usual!
For dessert, my sister and I shared the Tiramisu cheesecake. My mouth is watering as I type this, and I wish I could go back, now!
On top of all that, my sister MADE me a birthday cake.
It was sooo good!
That night, we went to see Salt. It was okay, but I was expecting it to be a lot better. At times it just seemed to go on forever, and ever.
Saturday morning we went to the local water park. It was smaller than what I'm used to, but it was really nice. It wasn't crowded, so we didn't have to wait to do things. It was fun seeing my lil nephew play in the water. But the best part, no doubt, was the lazy river. It felt so amazing just floating along without a care in the world.
Later, we went to see The Other Guys. It was so hilarious. I'm not going to lie, they showed some of the main funny parts during the trailers, but there were enough unexpected scenes to make up for it. I would definitely recommend it, and I will probably end up going to see it again when Aaron comes home.
Sunday, we made the long journey back home, and I spent the rest of the day lazing around baking cookies.
On Monday, myself and my friend Kelly headed up to Auburn to see our friends Matt and Frisco graduate. They aren't just any friends, they've been our best friends since high school, and pretty much the only people I've kept in constant contact with since.
Needless to say, I am very, very proud.

And now my journey continues....
Off to my MIL's today, then heading to north Alabama tomorrow for colorguard practice.
Hope you all are still enjoying the summer!

Busy days ahead

Tomorrow morning I have a teller assessment at Regions bank.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
After that, my Nanny, my aunt, and I will be headed to Georgia to spend the weekend with my sister.
Monday, my two bfff's will graduate college.
And only a little over a week until Aaron comes home <3.

A few weeks ago, I finished some paintings Sara asked me to do for her son's room.
They turned out so cute, I was inspired to do a few more kid style paintings. I just finished with a baby unicorn.
Currently working on a baby giraffe, and would definitely be willing to take on any ideas you all may have for commissions.

I have a serious problem

Thanks to my dear ol' friend, Matt for re-introducing me to Netflix, I can't stop watching Weeds.
No, seriously....In less than 24 hours I have watched TWO FULL seasons of that show, and am now starting on my third. It's addicting.

Also, thanks to my job for not scheduling me to work until Wednesday, because now....I am taking way too many breaks to watch this show while I'm trying to finish organizing my house.

I've heard about this show for quite some time, but since we only get basic cable at our house, I have never seen it. But, I saw 5 seasons worth of it on netflix, and obviously couldn't help myself. Mary Louise Parker has been one of my fav's since she played Ruth Jamison in Fried Green Tomatoes. This show is fresh. As far as I know, there hasn't been anything like it...and I watch A LOT of t.v.

Anyways, if you have showtime, netflix, or any kind of access to renting dvds, I would suggest you watch this. I mean, if obscene language, nudity, and drug paraphernalia do not offend you.

The sun won't always shine but tomorrow will find a way

My BFF IRL, Matt, gave me this award:
Wasn't that sweeeeeeet?

So, the rules are to tell you all SEVEN things about me.
I'll try not to tell you things you may already know.

Here we go:

  1. I just applied one of those cleansing face masks [because I'm a girl and I like to pamper myself], but it is so tight and plastic like...I feel like the carver from nip/tuck. I may never do this again.
  2. The reason I don't like cereal is because once upon a time, my sister won a year supply from general mills. And Nanny made us eat it every.single.day.................until it was gone.
  3. I stayed in my pajamas ALL day yesterday and did absolutely nothing. & it felt amazing.
  4. When I was a freshman in college, I used to wish & pray that I could take a semester off, to figure things out, and make my creative dreams come true. Now that it's actually about to happen, I DON'T WANT it to. I just want to finish my BA and get out of here.
  5. The only regret I have [since the summer of 2007] is when I got my hair cut two weeks ago. I am pretty much traumatized, and don't plan on going through this again for a very, VERY long time.
  6. Anytime I get down, I go back and read my OLDDDD livejournal entries and laugh [and sometimes cry] because I was so emotional/depressed/immature back then.
  7. Sometimes I wish that I would have created this whole blog totally anonymously. But I am very thankful for all the friends I have met all the while being myself.
Okay, okay....so who do I think
is a beautiful blogger?

Leah @ The Leah Project

So, go check her out and let her know that you think she is a beautiful blogger, too!

Don't want no paper gangster

As embarrassed as I am to say this....
I'm kind of obsessed with Lady Gaga.

I made Aaron download The Fame Monster for me
and I've been listening to it--
while walking to school
while doing my homework
while singing in the shower
while driving......
it's getting pretty ridiculous.

I knew it was getting bad when Matt called and I purposely didn't answer until my favorite part [yes, she's my ringtone, too] went off.

As if that's not enough...apparently Aaron has been listening, too.
Because the other night, while we were out to dinner with his mother, he started singing humming one of her songs.
When I looked at him with SHOCK on my face, he said, "What? I think Lady Gaga is my favorite pop singer."
I could have died.right.then.

This time we're not giving up

Let's make it last foreverrrrr.

Guess what?

I'm married!

See...
And my dad even walked me down the aisle.........
but that is a story for another day.

I just wanted to update really quick to say 'hey' and let you all know that everything went well!
Expect a longer more detailed post at a later date.

Until then...a few pictures from the crowd until I get the professional ones back.

'Tis the season.......

Finals are over.......
kind of.

The only one I have left is sculpture...
AKA the one with the d-bag teacher.

So, since I'm pretty stress free, I've been in the 'Christmas Spirit'.
Which is kind of crazy, because I'm usually all 'bah hum bug' until Christmas Eve.
I was really excited about decorating our apartment this year, so I just wanted to share with you all my decorations, even though there aren't a lot.

I made my own wreath. Using these:
And a hot glue gun, I produced this:
Aaron helped me hang the lights
And here is our little Christmas tree. Isn't it cute?
I can't wait until we have a house and I can go allllllllll out!!

I also kind of suck at buying presents early.
For example...I got a REALLY good deal on a gps for Aaron for Christmas, and I definitely already gave it to him.
See....
And, I bought Matt a special gift for being part of the wedding.
And I just couldn't wait 8 more days to give it to him.
Oh well. :) Hope you all have a great weekend!

WW:Love is a battlefield

Engagement party pics!

doin' what we do best [fight]

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Suddenly Sunday?!

This weekend has flown by way too fast.

It seems like just yesterday I was sharing with you the yummy goodness that is banana bread, and now it's time to prepare for another dreaded week of school. Darn deadlines!

Last night my sister threw Aaron and I an engagement party. It was a lot of fun. Don't worry, I'll post pictures as soon as she uploads them. Until then....a teaser!

Kel, Matt, & Me.

Anyways, a few of you asked me to post the recipe for the banana bread, so here it is:

Ingredients

  • 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

Method

No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

Hope you all have a very relaxing Sunday. As for me, I'll be here writing lesson plans and listening to pandora until my shows come on!

You are Manhattan in June

Today, I'm feeling not-so-hot, in a sense that I may throw up half way through this post, but I'm going to continue anyways.

This weekend was pretty much one of the best weekends that I have had in a long, long time.

Friday night, we went to see Inglorious Basterds. Well, I really loved it. I'm not going to review it, but Matt did, so read his :)

Saturday, Aaron, our friend Danny, and I went to Dothan to do a little shopping. Our day consisted of Michael's Arts & Crafts,
Icee's from Target,
too much time in Barnes & Noble,
spontaneity in the mall,
[getting my ears pierced]
and ended with dinner at TGI Friday's with my friend Emily.

See, just a few weeks ago, she was diagnosed with the swine flu.
Although, according to her doctor, she is no longer contagious..........
Now, I really, really hope that I am not really sick, but if I am, I will be pissssssssed that I decided to hang out with her.

Anyways, I'm off to do some homework, and then to bed. Hope you all have a lovely week!
