Breaking My Heart

Disclaimer: This post may be a little ridiculous [see title]. Also, spoiler alert.

A few weeks ago, when I saw the commercial for the new show Breaking Amish, I knew I was going to be a fan. Crazy? Maybe. But I'm a sucker for reality t.v.

After watching the first episode, I can honestly say I was intrigued. We set it to record every week & so far, I've been pleased. Some things annoyed us [the whole sushi scene], but for the most part we didn't have a lot of complaints. Last night, Aaron and I watched the fourth episode, and we started questioning things.
The obvious--How did these people sign up for a t.v. show? How do they know curse & slang words if they are so religious & have little interaction with 'English' people? How does one girl have her ears pierced? One guy is 32. Why is he not married with kids in the Amish community? How does the one girl know what a stripper pole is much less how to dance on one?

I only thought about it for a few minutes after the show. Until Aaron came home and said that him & some of his friends got into a discussion about the show & they said it was a sham.
Of course I had to look it up. I found several articles about it online, but THEN I came across this gem.
The blog of an ex Amish guy. He talks about the show from the Amish stand point & tells all the reasons it's completely staged.

Like--
How pretty much all of them left the Amish several years prior to taping.
Kate has been on a modeling website since 2010.
Abe & Rebecca, who seem to have just met & started dating on the show, are actually a couple with a child together in real life.
Jeremiah and Sabrina both were married. Jeremiah has kids & has supposedly been living an 'English' lifestyle for the past 14 years.

So yes, this bums me out. Maybe it's not a big deal to anyone else, but I feel like I was lied to.
I probably still would have watched if they would have just said to begin with that this was a show about ex Amish young adults experiencing 'English' culture. But the fact that they've repeatedly said that this is the first time they've left the Amish & that this is the first time experiencing all of these things, really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

If you want to see more of the lies exposed, go here.

Not Mad

I recently started watching Mad Men.
I had heard good things about it, but had never seen it myself until it became available on Netflix streaming.
The first episode was hard to get into, but I figured one episode wasn't really giving it a chance, so I watched more.
Seven episodes in and I'm not really seeing what people have been raving about. I mean, sure, there's 1960's charm and a few good looking actors, but like my husband said, if it were set in present day, it would probably have flopped after the first season.
I'm going to continue watching because I'm not a quitter.
But please, please tell me that some of you watch this show & that it gets better?

Have I told you lately...

that I have an obsessive personality?
Well, I do.
Aaron and I recently started watching Dexter on Netflix.
Although I was a little freaked out at first, I just COULD NOT stop watching it.
There's just something about Michael C. Hall that just draws me in :)
....the stories are good, too. haha
Anyway, we finished season 1 last night after watching it for 4 straight hours. It only took us like 3 days to watch the entire season. So, if that's any indication, you guys should probably check it out.

Besides Dexter, it seems like all our favorite new shows come from either HBO or Showtime. SO, I called the cable company to see how much it would cost to get those channels added, annnnnnnnnnd they wanted $38.80 A MONTH!!! How ridiculous is that? I guess we'll have to just keep waiting until the seasons come on dvd.

And, while I have still had NO luck finding a job, Aaron has landed one through the work study program at school. It's only 20 hours a week, but something is better than nothing, right?

I'm leaving you with an amazing recipe that I tried this week and ABSOLUTELY loved. It's so easy, Matt could probably do it.

30 days of me & a WTF moment

30 Days of ME

Day 3: Your favorite television program

Well, I would definitely have to say Weeds.

Other shows I love:
Gossip Girl
Modern Family
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Secret Life of the American Teenager
Pawn Stars
Spartacus

Favorite shows that are now canceled:
Nip/Tuck
The O.C.
Mercy

So on to my WTF moment....
People, we have reached an all time low.

I'm at work tonight and this little girl came in. COULDN'T have been more than 5 or 6 years old. She ordered a specialty pizza and payed for it. A few minutes later, our phone rings.

Me: Thank you for calling Lil' Caesars. How can I help you?
Lady: Yes, my daughter just came in and ordered a pizza, is it not ready yet?
Me: No Ma'am it's a specialty so it will be about 8-1o minutes.
Lady: Okay, well just tell my daughter I will come back and pick her up when it is ready *click*

UMMM, SERIOUSLY??? I was about to call child protective services. YOU DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KID AT A RANDOM PLACE. Why would anyone think that is a good idea? I asked my manager what I should do, and was told just to stay out of it.

Anyways, the mother came back about 30 minutes later. I felt SO guilty. I felt like I should have let someone [other than my boss] know about the situation. And I swear, if she ever pulls that crap again, I will not hesitate to do so.

What would you have done?

I have a serious problem

Thanks to my dear ol' friend, Matt for re-introducing me to Netflix, I can't stop watching Weeds.
No, seriously....In less than 24 hours I have watched TWO FULL seasons of that show, and am now starting on my third. It's addicting.

Also, thanks to my job for not scheduling me to work until Wednesday, because now....I am taking way too many breaks to watch this show while I'm trying to finish organizing my house.

I've heard about this show for quite some time, but since we only get basic cable at our house, I have never seen it. But, I saw 5 seasons worth of it on netflix, and obviously couldn't help myself. Mary Louise Parker has been one of my fav's since she played Ruth Jamison in Fried Green Tomatoes. This show is fresh. As far as I know, there hasn't been anything like it...and I watch A LOT of t.v.

Anyways, if you have showtime, netflix, or any kind of access to renting dvds, I would suggest you watch this. I mean, if obscene language, nudity, and drug paraphernalia do not offend you.

Daddy Issues

I don't know how many of you watch Tough Love on VH1, but I watch it all the time. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a show that brings girls who have problem finding/keeping guys, and a pro match maker tries to work out their issues. Trust me, it's interesting.

Anyways, tonight they talked about 'daddy issues'.
I guess I never realized HOW many girls actually deal with this.
Steve [the match maker] made the girls write letters to their dads in order to help them move past issues they have in relationships.

I got really emotional watching it, so I decided to write a letter to my dad.

Dear Dad,
Here's what I don't understand...how can you be there for your boys, yet leave your girls in the dust. We are yours, too. I never really understood why you loved them so much more than us. Why you would visit them, and call them, and it pretty much took an act of congress for you to see or talk to my sister and me. Yes, mom died. Yes, Nanny got custody of us. That doesn't mean that you can completely forget about us. How can you go to my brother's house RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO US, and not bother to walk over and say hello. I don't understand why you get so mad when we don't include you in the most important part of our lives, when you never wanted us in yours. I can't wrap my head around the fact that you got so upset, yelling at Nanny, because you can't remember the last time you saw me, when you taught me how to do that. You taught me how UNIMPORTANT it was for us to see each other ALL those years that you NEVER came to see me and my sister. One thing I'm truly grateful for...that you showed me someone I never wanted to turn into. I NEVER want to be like you. The reason I continued my education, the reason I fight for what I love, the reason I'll never let any substance control my life...is because I NEVER want to be like my dad. I hate the fact that the reason I felt like I always had to have a boyfriend, was so I would have someone to 'take care' of me...someone to keep me safe...to never let me down...because I never had a man do this for me. This is my daddy issue. For so long, I wanted to believe in you. I wanted to stand up for you, and I honestly thought that one day you'd come around. I'm sad to say that now, I don't think you ever will, and if you do, it will be too late. Why couldn't you just man the 'f' up and take care of your kids? Why couldn't you just put down the bottle for 2.5 seconds and treat us like human beings? Don't you know that it's one of the crappiest feelings in the world to be a 6 year old girl on a friday night waiting and wondering why your dad hasn't come to pick you up for the weekend? How can you sleep at night? Knowing that for 20 some odd years you have completely let down your daughters. Well this is it. I know you will probably never see this, and I honestly do not care. I just hope that one day, the hate that I have in my heart for you will disappear.
Your Daughter,
Jamie

Totally Disgusted Out

I decided to reward myself for staying so on track, instead of being a total slacker, so I went to Dairy Queen to try their new Mignight Truffle Blizzard that I keep seeing on t.v. All I can say is, DON'T waste your time or money. It was pretty much disgusting. The first few bites were pretty good, although it didn't look anything like it does in the commercial, but after that, I felt like I was going to throw up. There was more truffle than there was ice cream, and that much chocolate at one time can't be good for you. Not to mention it's dark chocolate, which I'm not a HUGE fan of. Anyways, that's just my two cents worth.
When I came home from running errands earlier, I decided to chill out and watch a little bit of t.v. I came across some show about little girls in pageants, and I was totally appalled.
Do these girls look 5-7? Because they are...
No wonder so many girls grow up with confidence issues. These parents are pushing their kids at young ages to be JUDGED. Five and six year olds getting spray tans and wearing more make up than I [as a 21 year old woman] ever have in my entire life. Oh, and did I mention fake teeth? Yea. What kind of screwed up world are we living in? I can understand letting your child be in a pageant if it's what the kid wants, but even then, I can't see going to the extent that these people go to in order for their kid to be 'beautiful'.
If you want to read more about it, go here.
I'm currently taking a break from writing a final paper, and I'm watching Tale of Despereaux. So far, so good.
