Oh the life of a Military wife

Friday night was the Dining Out for Aaron's ROTC program.
So I got all jazzed up for the evening. He introduced me to all his friends and commanding officers like this: "Hey, this is my wife Jamie...she's pregnant."
I was just so awkwardly hilarious.
Our dinner was catered by the school. In case you don't get what I'm trying to say, it was gross. Aaron said he thought they bought a whole bunch of frozen dinners and just heated them up. Even the cake tasted stale.
Even though it was fun to get all made up for the night, I was so glad to get home and get into my pajamas!

In case you were wondering...
I rented my dress from renttherunway.com
I will not be wasting my money on that ever again.
First of all, when it came, there were tiny rips/holes in the dress. Luckily I had gotten a backup from them for free.
As you can see from the picture, it was extremely long on me, even though I was wearing high heels. If I would have just bought a dress, I could have had it altered.
According to their policy, you have to send the dress back the day after your event in this prepaid envelope, which I thought was no big deal.
Except, hey, the post offices around here aren't opened on Saturdays.
Also, when we went to send the dress off today, the 'prepaid' envelope was only prepaid for up to a pound. LIKE a long evening gown is going to weigh less than a pound. So we ended up having to pay extra to even ship it back.
All I'm saying is renting a dress seems nice in theory, but after all is said and done, it wasn't worth it in my opinion.
I would definitely weigh out my pros and cons BEFORE hitting the add to cart button if I were you.

Once upon a time...

I used to wear my hair like this....
[please ignore the awkward positions my hands are in]
I was also 20 lbs lighter, and it framed my face so nicely.

At some point I decided to grow my hair out for about a year and a half and I LOVED it.
Recently, I cut it to a medium length for easier maintenance.
Now though, it's just getting on my nerves so bad! And I know that when I have the baby, I won't have time every single day to blow dry it and straighten it, so I'm really thinking about going back to the good ol' days and chopping it all off.

What do ya'll think?
I need help!

This was fun..

Say these words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

  4. I have been spending a lot of time daydreaming about living in a house [rather than apartment] and hoping that I have the funds to make that happen in the near future.
  5. My kids names will not be ordinary, but they won't be as crazy as HALF of the little kids I come across at school.
  6. I really want a Wii, specifically a red one. But only for Mario Bros & Donkey Kong.
  7. I have been thinking of things to write on here for at least 45 minutes...the end.

Pastrama Momma

I've been searching my brain for things to blog about, and the only things I can come up with have to do with my internship and the baby. But, since I can't blog about my internship [because I'm not anonymous, and no offense friends, but if I got pulled from my internship because of a blog post, I would be so pissed off I would probably never blog again] I guess I can answer some questions that I seem to be asked every. single. day.

  • I am 16 weeks as of today.
  • My due date is July 3rd, 2011.
  • I don't know yet if it's a boy or girl, but we ARE going to find out.
  • Yes, I have picked out names. No, I will not tell you what they are. [But maybe, just maybe before the birth]
  • I am over the morning sickness phase and on to the chronic headache phase.
  • I am constantly craving mozzarella sticks [only from sonic], fried green tomatoes, nachos from Momma Goldberg's, ice cream, and root beer, but NOT all at the same time.
  • I have only gained 5 pounds so far.
  • We are not getting rid of our dog.
  • Yes, I use coupons, so if you have any diaper/wipes/formula coupons, feel free to send them my way.
  • It doesn't matter if I sleep 5 hours or 10 hours, I always wake up feeling completely exhausted.
  • And yes, I do plan on [at least trying to] breastfeed.

Say a little prayer...

Dear Friends,

Today something insanely scary happened. Not to me, but to someone who attends my university and lives less than a half mile away from me. I've mentioned on here before that I live in a not-so-safe neighborhood. There are always sketchy looking people walking around during all hours of the day & night [remember Pecan man?]. Anyways, today this young lady answered her door unsuspiciously and was kidnapped in her OWN car, stabbed multiple times, and when her car ran out of gas the bastards left her there to die. Somehow she had enough strength/will to live to WALK to the nearest house to get help. You'll be glad to hear that she is currently in stable condition. Although her wounds will heal, it's going to take a toll on her psychologically. I've tried to put myself in her position mentally and it keeps bringing me to tears. I can't even IMAGINE this happening. I honestly have no idea why anyone would want to do this, and I'm kind of scared to even be at my own apartment by myself. Please, please, please.....if you pray, PLEASE take just a minute to pray for this girl.

Baby it's cold outside...

After 3 LONG days of training, I am finally ready to start my internship on Monday.
Yesterday I went shopping for maternity dress clothes, which was both fun and annoying.
It would have been WAY more fun if I weren't on a budget, but that wasn't the case.
Anyway, I ended up with 4 pairs of slacks, 2 tops, and a belly band [to wear with some of the dress pants I already have] for $120. Luckily, $50 of that was a gift card to Target [which has really cute maternity clothes BUT they're freakin' expensive.] I lucked out and got a few things from Burlington and a few things from Ross. Those places are like lifesavers for your wallet, for real.

Anyways, a few people asked if we were going to do BMS this month. And honestly, I wasn't sure because I just assumed everyone would be busy/broke but since there is some interest, I'm going to leave it up to you all.

Here are the guidelines:

1. You have to send a package to get a package.
2. You can put anything that you want in the package, but please let the value be less than $10.
3. You don't have to buy anything for this. You can totally make things if you want!
4. Send package by the posted date. [I will send this in an email]
5. You won't know who you are getting a package from until it arrives. That being said, please don't tell the person you are sending a package to.
6. Please read the blog of the person who you're sending the package to. That's kind of the whole point of this, right? Show each other love.
7. For now, this BMS is limited to U.S. only [sorry, ya'll]
8. Have fun with it! I mean, who doesn't LOVE to get mail?!

To sign up, just leave a comment with your email address in it so I can contact you with further information. Sign up ends Saturday, Jan. 15th.

New prints and a Coupon Code

Today has been a very, very busy day.
After running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to get all this stuff figured out for my internship, I finally had time to add some new things to my etsy.

I added a TON of new prints to the shop and here are just a few:
Go check them out!
And from now until January 10th, you can get 10% off any PRINT in my shop by using the code PRINT10.

So far, so good.

They finally let me know that I am going to be interning this semester. I still don't know where yet, but I'm just glad that it's happening.
If I can make it through the training (10 hours straight, 3 days in a row), I should be able to make it through the real thing.
We shall see.

In other news...
We finally got our crib and changing table put together.

So, how is YOUR new year coming along so far?
