Can you believe it?
Adelei is 2 months old already!
Adelei is 2 months old already!
Where does the time go?
Current stats:
12 lbs 14 oz
23 inches long
At her 2 month check up, her regular pediatrician was out of town, so we had to see his partner.
I was not happy about this, but went along with it anyways. She got her vaccinations, and then had a physical.
The doctor insisted that Adelei is gaining too much weight and that I should substitute a few formula feedings per day with water.
UMMM, seriously? That sounds like putting my baby on a diet. It really upset me, to the point where I was almost in tears & have seriously considered changing doctors. I decided to call my nutritionist as soon as I left.
I went in for her to check the baby out. She is in the 96% for her age, but based on her eating habits, she is NOT over eating. The nutritionist told me that she would definitely not recommend me doing feeding her water. & then I didn't feel like a crazy mom anymore.
Have any of you been told things by your pediatrician that you disagreed with or thought was wrong for your child? If so, how did you handle it?

some doctors ca be very dumb! olivia was weight 13 at 2 months!!! my doctor never recommended a diet but people did. everyone thought i was over feeding her (she was breastfed) and they still think i am (now formula & solids). follow your instincts. if she is eating the appropriate amount of oz. then don't change anything! :)
Aw, she's super cute. I can't believe she's already 2 months, time sure does fly.
That's an awful thing for your doctor to say. She's not even chubs. I'd expect to hear that about a baby that's full of rolls but come on, babies are supposed to be a little chubbie. I'm glad you got a second opinion :)
That sounds nuts! I can't imagine feeding a baby less food...
Um yes, at every single appointment. But at the end of the day- YOU are her mom and you have to just tell the doctor that you think they are wrong. Babies should eat.. that's how they grow. And I'm sorry- but the percentile charts? I told our doctor to not tell me where they are on the chart. They are healthy, they are happy and they are thriving. I take whatever they say with a grain of salt and know that I'm doing the best job that I can. Don't let them bully you or bring you on the brink of tears. Trust me, it only gets worse as they grow. Wait until she gets bigger and everyone compares her to every other kid they know. Everyone told me Olivia should have been walking and she didn't until she was 14 months. But everyone told me I needed to get her checked out, etc and she was fine. She was just really chill hanging out on the floor. :)
I was once told by a pediatrician that Aiden was getting too heavy. I switched doctors. The fact of the matter is...they are just kids. They might not grow on their perfect little charts but as long as I don't end up with my morbidly obese 5 year old on the Maury Show because I feed him 17 cheeseburgers for lunch then I don't see a problem. My current doctor says that kids have a better sense of hunger than we do. They don't yet eat out of necessity. Next time refuse to see any doctor but your own. Don't be afraid to speak up to them. Their MD does not prevent some of them from being morons. Advocate for Adelei. If you don't feel right about giving her water then don't. I didn't mean for this to be so long. Sorry.
